I won! Sort of...

Hello lovely readers! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

The lovely Erika from Icy Nails had a giveaway in September where the prize was Sally Hansen X-Treme Wear in Pumpkin Spice. It looked lovely so I entered and crossed my fingers. When she announced the winner, I noticed that it appeared I had won the giveaway but I did not get an email. I thought maybe there was some confusion or there might very well be someone else with my name who had won (after all, Marta is not such an uncommon name) so I decided to contact Erika on her Facebook page. I just wanted to check, because I know I would have hated to be the winner and then lose out on the prize. I didn't hear anything back from her, and so I figured someone else had won the prize.

I didn't think much of it again until Erika messaged me back stating that I had won and she had sent an email to the address I provided, but had to choose another winner because I had not responded. I obviously entered my email incorrectly, whoops! After apologizing profusely for the miscommunication (even though I was the one who made the mistake), she offered to send me another prize package to make up for it! Can you believe how absolutely sweet this woman is?!?! Anyway, when the package arrived this is what it contained:

China Glaze Magnetix in Pull Me Close and Drawn To You and she included the magnet! Isn't that amazing! I don't have any China Glaze magnetic polishes, so I'm excited to try these out!

Again, thank you Erika! If you guys don't already follow her blog, please check it out! Icy Nails is a lovely blog.

Blog Your Heart Out!

Hello all! I have been feeling very under the weather (my niece got me sick lol), so I haven't done my nails in well over a week. So today I have a different type of post for you guys. The lovely creator of Ever Belle's Mani-fest has awarded me with this:

You guys should go check out her blog because it is fantastic!

Here are the rules for the award (taken straight from Ever Belle's Mani-fest ):

The Blog Your Heart Out button is for women who love to blog. It is awarded to bloggers that have under 100 followers and, well, blog their heart out! If you are awarded, you must nominate 5 other bloggers with under 100 followers and answer the following questions:

What/who encouraged you start blogging?
How did you choose what topic(s) to blog about?
What is something that most people don't know about you?
What are 3 words to describe your style?
What do you like to do when you're not blogging?

Here are the blogs I am choosing (you guys need to check them out, they deserve a ton more readers than they have because they are seriously fantastic):

1. Lola Sparklez
Lovestruck Lacquer
3. LacqsoLuv
4. Reach For The Polish
5. Meg's Manicures

And here are my answers:

1. I started blogging because I was driving my friends and boyfriend crazy by talking about polish lol. They are not interested in nail polish AT ALL, which is kinda shocking to me. So I started blogging in order to share my passion with others who are just as obsessed interested in polish as I am.

2. Oops, I think I already answered this lol. I absolutely adore nail polish. I think it is a fun and easy way to be creative and express yourself.

3. This is tough, I'm not the type to have secrets. But as my readers don't know me very well, I would have to say that most of my readers do not know that I have been with my boyfriend for more than six years. I met him when I was very young and we were best friends for FOUR years before realizing we loved each other. We were slow to get started lol, but I am glad we finally realized our true feelings because we make a fantastic couple :)

4. Mmm, I would say classic and comfortable with moments of va-va-voom ;)

5. I am a total bookworm so I spend a ton of time reading. I love watching movies. I also love the beach; the beach makes me feel refreshed and new again. It is my therapy :)

Julep Sasha and Claire

Hi guys! Hopefully you are all having a fantastic day! I recently purchased my very first Julep polishes, and I was very happy with the colors I received. Immediately upon seeing Sasha and Claire, I knew I wanted to combine them. I have also been wanting to try the saran wrap technique for a while now, so I figured now was as good a time as any. Anywho, without further ado, here it is:

(shaded sunlight)

Base coat: Seche Clear
Base color: Julep Sasha (two easy coats)
Top color: Julep Claire
Top coat: Seche Vite

The formula of the Julep polishes is everything I have heard; they were pure perfection. Two easy coats of Sasha were enough for opacity. Loved my first Juleps :)

I love the combination of the colors, but I am not entirely sold on this manicure. I have seen some saran wrap manicure that are completely amazing, and I know mine is sorely lacking. But I know it's my first attempt, so I hope I get better with practice.

Sinful Colors Ice Dream

Hello people! Today I have a lovely polish from Sinful Colors to show you. The polish is Ice Dream and it is part of their new collection entitled Holiday Shimmers. Here it is:

(direct sunlight)
Base Coat: Seche Clear
3 coats of Sinful Colors Ice Dream
Top Coat: Seche Clear (2 coats)

I absolutely love this polish! It is super sparkly! I wasn't able to capture how sparkly this polish really is, unfortunately. I wanted to add a video, but my internet is not working and I cannot figure out how to do so from my phone :/ Also, forgive me if this post looks odd; as I mentioned, I am posting this from my phone.

Thanks for reading!

Edit: I was somehow able to get a video uploaded! Wooohooo!

Nails Inc. Sweets Way

Hello lovely people! If you remember my last post, you know that I recently got my hands on my very first Nails Inc. polish, Sweets Way, for the unbelievable price of 19 cents. Sweets Way is from their Special Effects line and it is a lovely milky base with blue, pink and silver glitter. Without further ado, here it is:

Base coat: Seche Clear
3 coats of Sweets Way
Top coat: Seche Vite

This beauty was a joy to work with and only took 3 coats for full opacity. Each coat of polish added subdues the glitter from the previous coat, giving the polish a jelly sandwich type of look (at least in my opinion). It is a very thirsty glitter, so I would recommend more than one layer of top coat. But it is so gorgeous, that didn't matter in the least. I am tempted to go out and get the other polishes in the Special Effects line :)

nails inc. special effects sweets way

You guys, I am so excited! I got my very first nails inc. polish today! As the title of the post indicates, I purchased:

So I had promised myself I wouldn't buy any polish this month, but I just couldn't help myself! Would you like to know why? Because I paid $0.19! That's right, I paid 19 cents for a polish that retails for $9.50 plus tax. So technically, I didn't break my no-buy rule. And this is how I justify my ever-growing stash, sigh. But who can resist this beauty for 19 CENTS! Sweets Way is a gorgeous milky base with blue, silver and pink "sprinkles". It's like a jelly sandwich in a bottle you guys! I can't wait to put this on my nails!

Ok, I'm done now I was just so excited that I had to share immediately.

Water marble featuring Lacey Lilac and Exceptionally Gifted

Hello lovely people! I know it's been a while, but things have been pretty busy around here. One of the things that kept me pretty busy was my aunt's baby shower! I LOVE babies and anything baby-related lol. I knew I had to do something soft and girly for this baby shower so I settled on a water marble.

(artificial light)
Base coat: Essie fill the gap!
Base color: 2 coats of Exceptionally Gifted by China Glaze (I picked this polish up for 50 cents people!!!)
Water marble: Exceptionally Gifted by China Glaze and Lacey Lilac by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear
Top Coat: Seche Vite

I tried to do a flower pattern on all my nails, and for the most part, I think I did pretty well. I will of course continue practicing to get better, but not too bad for my first attempt at this pattern.

After I finished, I looked at my nails and couldn't help thinking that something was missing. So I immediately went to grab my NYC Matte me Crazy topcoat. And this is the final result:

(shaded sunlight)

(artificial light)

I love it! It is so girly and soft and perfect for a baby shower! What do you guys think? Are you a fan of matte top coats? I totally overuse mine :/

KleanColor Blue-Eyed Girl, revisited

Hello all and happy Sunday night! I hope you are all doing fantastic. Remember Blue-Eyed Girl? In case you don't (and just because it is gorgeous lol), here it is:

Beautiful right? Well, after a couple of days of wearing this, I began to wonder what it would look like with a matte top coat. I did not want to remove this beauty so soon, but curiosity got the best of me and I slapped on Essie Matte About You. OMG, I loved it!!!

(artificial light)

Base coat: Essie fill the gap!
3 coats of KleanColor Blue-Eyed Girl
Top Coat: Seche Vite
Matte top coat: Essie Matte About You

Isn't this wonderful? I am definitely in love with this polish! I cannot believe it was only one dollar!

Kleancolor Blue-Eyed Girl

Hello lovelies! I have the second Kleancolor polish I picked up at the swapmeet. This one is called Blue-Eyed Girl and it is GORGEOUS! I received so many compliments on this one. Without further ado, here it is:

(these two pictures were taken indoors-ignore the weird reflections on the nails please lol)

(shaded natural light)

Base coat: Essie fill the gap!
3 coats of Kleancolor Blue-Eyed Girl
Top coat: Seche Vite

This is a stunning and complex polish. It has quickly climbed the charts to become my favorite Kleancolor. These pictures do not do this polish justice. It is a lovely cobalt jelly filled with glitter. It's like a jelly sandwich in a bottle lol! There is a bit of dragging of the glitters (you can see the glitter is more concentrated on my tips) but that was largely my fault. I was too impatient and did not wait for the layers to dry completely. Two coats of Seche Vite were more than enough to leave this beauty smooth and glossy.

Kleancolor Holo Chrome!

Hello lovely readers! Last Friday night I headed out to my local swapmeet in search of Kleancolor Holo Chrome. I saw this polish on another blog (I'm sorry I forgot which), and instantly fell in love. The swapmeet is where I find all my Kleancolor polishes; they have a huge selection and they are only 99 cents each! Definitely can't get any better that that :) I almost went thorough the entire swapmeet before I found this gem. Here it is:

(natural light)

(natural light, but with flash)

(flash during nighttime)

Base coat: Essie fill the gap!
3 coats of Kleancolor Holo Chrome
Top Coat: 2 coats of Seche Vite

Look at all that sparkly goodness!

I know it looks different in every picture; that is because this polish looks different under different lighting. The last picture is how this polish looked on me the majority of the time. It looks more blue than chrome honestly, so I don't know why it is named Holo Chrome but there you have it. I have no idea why I didn't take a picture of this in the sun, oh forgetful me. This is INTENSE in sunlight; absolutely gorgeous. I loved it so much that I immediately put it on my toes and it is still there after 5 days.

I am so glad I found this!

As always, I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!

Sinful Colors Cinderella

Happy Friday evening! I hope you are all getting ready to enjoy the weekend. I am still without internet :( So I have another quick post today. I can't get used to posting from my phone lol.

I tried the sugar spun (spun sugar?) technique a few days ago, and loved the result!

Base coat: Essie fill the gap!
Base color: Sinful Colors Cinderella
' spun sugar' color: Santee Baby Pink

What do you think? Have you ladies tried out this super easy technique yet?

As always, I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for reading

Fantasy Makers by Wet n Wild Once Upon a Time

Hello fantastic people! I have been without internet for the past week or so (gasp!!!), which is why I have not been posting. I hope the issue will be resolved soon, but in the meantime, here is a quick mani for you guys:

(the previous two pictures were taken in direct sunlight)

(shaded natural light)

This is such a gorgeous shade! It was put out in this year's Halloween display and I am so glad I picked it up. It only required three thin coats to reach opacity. It is a good idea to let each layer dry well before adding in the next layer, otherwise, you'll just be moving the glitter around. Two coats of Seche Vite were enough to make this smooth and glossy. A gorgeous addition to my collection!

As always, I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!

NYC Sidewalkers

Hey lovely readers! Hopefully you all had a fantastic weekend. I sat down in the living room this morning with every intention of painting my nails leisurely. Because I am a nail art newbie, it takes me a while to do my nails. I didn't think that would be a problem because it is Sunday and I had no plans. So I gathered my supplies and headed to the living room. As soon as I paint on my base color, my mother informs me that we are leaving to a party in a couple of hours. Yikes! I decided to go ahead with my manicure, and as a result, the final product is not even close to how I wanted it. Oh well, here it is anyway:

I started with my usual base coat-Essie fill the gap! I then added my base color which was Santee Plus in Baby Pink. It is a very soft and lovely pink. It was a bit on the thick side, but nothing that my thinner couldn't take care of. I then placed striping tape, trying to space them evenly (trying being the key word there lol). I then painted NYC Sidewalkers over the pink. Then, as accent nails, I tried (lol) to freehand some hearts using Sinful Colors Snow me White. Finally, I topped the whole thing off with a thick layer of Seche Vite.

As you can see, it is far from perfect but I still loved it! I am consoling myself by thinking that if I had had more time, this would have probably turned out better lol.

As always, I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!

Georgio plus flakies plus matte top coat!

Hey all! Hope you are all doing just lovely. I meant to put this up days ago, but I've been a bit absent-minded lately. Oops. Anyway, remember this from my last post?

Base coat: Essie Fill the Gap
Base color: Sinful Colors Georgio
Flakies: Nubar 2010
Top coat: Seche Vite

Weeeellll, I decided that it needed something else after a couple of days so I added a matte topcoat (Essie Matte About You). I just love matte flakies!

As always, I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!

Georgio plus flakies!

Hi all! Hope your week is going by smoothly and quickly :) I just received my Latina VoxBox from Influenster! It's so exciting! I will be reviewing these items in more detail in an upcoming post, but look at all the goodies:

Have you guys heard of Influenster? It's an awesome program that sends you free products to test and review. You should definitely check it out, it's free to join :)

Anyway, you might remember this mani from my last post:

Well, as much as I loved the color, I got a little bored after a day or two lol. So I decided to add a little something:

Nubar 2010! (over Sinful Colors Georgio)

Flakie heaven! I love this polish, it's like having fall on my fingertips :)

As always, I hope you liked it and thanks for reading!

Sinful Colors Georgio

Hello fabulous readers! How are you all doing? I've been spending a lot of quality time with this gorgeous girl here:

This is my beautiful niece Alexis. She is eight months old and is the absolute love of my life! Look at that can anyone not love that smile? Plus, she is obsessed with nail art and stares at my nails all the time! A girl after my own heart lol.

Anyway, back to polish lol. I picked up a few polishes during the 99cent Sinful Colors sale at Walgreens. The first I tried out is Georgio, a gorgeous brown-ish red (or reddish brown lol) color:

The two pictures above were taken indoors. This is the color that shows most often

Flash-this is the color you will see in direct sunlight

Isn't it gorgeous? The formula was fantastic and required almost no clean-up! Two easy coats for full opacity. I love darker colors like these :)

As always, I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for reading!

Wet n Wild Speak When Spoken To

Hello lovely readers! Today I have Speak When Spoken To. It is from Wet n Wild's Be Jeweled collection. I was fortunate enough to find Speak When Spoken To and The Crown is Mine (both from the same collection) for $1 each at my local Rite Aid!

Base coat: Essie Fill the Gap
Base color: Wet n Wild Black Creme (1 coat)
Wet n Wild Speak When Spoken To (1 coat)
Top Coat: Seche Vite

Honestly, how fantastic are these?!? The formula on this one was great and the drying time was excellent. The duochrome effect was hard to capture, trust me when I say these are much more stunning in real life. It is a silvery blue that shifts to pink and can anyone resist? I cannot wait to try The Crown is Mine :)

As always, I hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading!

ps. I had to photograph my right hand for these pictures. My family gets a little crazy at the pool and as a result, I have two broken finger nails on my left hand :(

Revlon Whimsical

Hello lovely readers! Hope you all had a fantastic weekend...I know I did. I got to spend the day lounging by the pool with the people I love most in the world.

I have a short post today. I finally got my hands on Revlon's Whimsical! I don't know why I waited so long to buy it, but it is beautiful :)

Base coat: Essie Fill the Gap
Base color: Sally Hansen Barracuda (two coats)
Revlon Whimsical (two coats)
Top coat: Seche Vite

Isn't it perfectly soft and dreamy??? I love it!

As always, I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!

Ciao Bella!

Hello lovely readers! I came across Sinful Color's Ciao Bella! recently and I couldn't resist it. It is a gorgeous cobalt blue jelly with tiny flakies (I think). It is seriously beautiful, but it was a pain to photograph. Here it is:

(all three pictures were shot in shaded natural light)
Base coat: Essie Fill The Gap
Ciao Bella! 3 coats
Top coat: Seche Vite

Although I tried my best to photograph the gorgeousness that is Ciao Bella!, my pictures do not do this color justice. Believe me when I say it is much more vibrant in person. I definitely recommend this shade if you do not have it. And as I understand it, Ciao Bella! is part of Sinful Colors new Start a Phenomenon display.

As always, I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!

Versatile Blogger Award

Hello lovely readers! I hope your weekends are off to a great start :)

I wanted to give a huge THANK YOU to Kelly's Nail Blog for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award. If you haven't yet found her blog, I suggest you check it out NOW. She has great manis and swatches over at her blog.

The rules for this are:
1. Nominate 15 fellow bloggers who are relatively new to blogging.
2. Let them know that you have nominated them.
3. Share 7 random facts about yourself.
4. Thank the bloggers who have nominated you.
5. Add the Versatile Blogger Award picture to your post.

I had to do a bit of homework to find 15 bloggers who are new (or relatively new, anyway) to blogging, but I accomplished it lol. Here they are:

7 facts about myself:
1. I am Mexican, but am always told I look Indian/Arabian. People are shocked when I start speaking Spanish lol
2. Even though I am Latina, and apparently, Latinos are born with the ability to dance to anything, I am a HORRIBLE dancer. Honestly, I have no rhythm. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad lol. Especially because my boyfriend is a fantastic dancer (he was even in a salsa team!)
3. Even though I was born in the US, I did not learn to speak English until I was 8 years old. Apparently, I refused to learn because I wanted to go live in Mexico and somehow thought that I would accomplish that goal by not learning English lol.
4. I am incredibly shy. It's actually a bit crippling to be honest, but I'm trying to manage
5. I have my master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy :)
6. I LOVE to bake, but rarely eat what I bake lol. I simply like the process, but I do not have a sweet tooth at all
7. I have a 7 month old niece who is the love of my life. Isn't she the cutest!

Again, a huge thanks to Kelly's Nail Blog for the award. Thank you for reading and now go check out her blog lol

Friday, June 29, 2012

Hello lovely readers! As you might have noticed (or not lol), I have been blogging a lot less often nowadays. I recently started playing tennis in the evenings for a couple of hours and I am going to start a Zumba class soon. I really want to get down to my goal weight (which is a good 30-40 pounds less than I currently weigh!) so I'm trying to be a lot more active. As you can imagine, this is really cutting into my nail time :(

So I have an old mani for you today:

Base color: Sinful Colors Savage on all fingers except ring finger which is Sinful Colors Nirvana
Top color: SC Nirvana (on most) and SC Savage on ring finger
Top coat: Seche Vite

A couple days later I got bored with it so I added Essie Matte About You.

The application on both of these polishes was excellent and both colors are lovely. Caution though, Savage can really stain your fingernails! So double up on base coat.

So what do you guys think? What are your tips for preventing stains?

As always, I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!

Stripe-y Water Marble

Hello lovely people! I know it's been a while since my last post, but I have not been in a good place emotionally lately so I hadn't taken the time to do my nails (until today). My last post was about two colors that I absolutely adore: Pacific Blue and Coral Reef (both are Sally Hansen Xtreme wear). I loved the combination so much that I knew I had to water marble with them. Here is the result:

Base coat: Essie Fill the Gap
Base polish: one coat of Coral Reef
Water marble: Coral Reef and Pacific Blue
Top Coat: Seche Vite

I love how this one turned out. I can't get enough of this color combo!

As always, I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!
